Customer Review: soooo disappointed
I had high hopes for this, after I researched the Acer Aspire on multiple websites. I wanted something small for me to take with me on vacations, solely for the purpose of keeping in touch and being able to get on the internet and check on tourist sites, restaurants, attractions, etc.. So the first week I had it, I set up my browser preferences, email, etc. - packed it in my suitcase and was quite pleased with my choice. At the hotel, within a couple hours, I got the blue screen of death flashed by with a page full of text and shut down. I gave it a cooling down period, but it would not restart - - - I just had a black screen. The next day, it booted up, seemed fine, but then again, the old BSOD and nothing! Repeat scenario several times. After vacation, I put the Acer away until 6 weeks later, I went on another vacation. Checked out the Acer at home, and everything seemed fine. Arrived at hotel - - - same story as last time!!! (I think my Acer is allergic to hotels!!!)
This time, when I got home, I emailed Acer tech support. They were very responsive, and gave me several steps to go through, things to test. So by email they tell me to mail in the netbook, but they didn’t give me the address! So I called Acer, HE wants me to do each of those tests, try this, try that, and after a lot of pushing, FINALLY got the address to mail it in for service.
A week later, I had it back, and it worked fine - - they said they upgraded the BIOS. Everything looked good. UNTIL I went on vacation again - - - you KNOW what happened - - - - - it worked a couple hours, then BSOD. I never could get it back up again, after 5 days of trying.
So now, I’m looking at taking a glass of wine with a couple prozac before I get on the phone with Acer again.
Maybe I’ve got a lemon.
Customer Review: Very pleased with performance
My first effort in the netbook world was the orginal asus 2 gig surf. It filled a need at the time and was well enjoyed used for web surfing email only. When i looked to expanding the asus i found by getting the orginal it was not as easy to upgrade as other latter asus were.
A pal mentioned this one and after doing homework asking questions here i went a head and used a seller on amazon and got it.
Very pleased with windows xp, the larger hard drive multi usb ports 2 different sd ports .
I found since this one had more features then my orginal one I use it much more often.
I got a flash drive for transfering files and found a 2.0 slim dvd external drive for this which made it complete to me.
Happy with purchase and glad i tried this acer instead of the other route i was looking to go. I also like the way acer did the space bar better then the asus…..
